ACCORDION FOLDED EYELET RIBBON HINGED PHOTO ALBUM
This album has become a huge ‘hit’. My new favorite book to show off my photos. Use as a brag book, a memory book from your most recent trip, treasured photo’s of your last family reunion, or …. The eyelets and ribbon hinges make it so cool. You will create a handsome hardcover book with decorative paper covers and black or cream coloured pages.

A DAY OF MINI BOOKS
Beginners and “veterans” alike will delight in this all day workshop. You will go home with several little books including a Japanese Stab Bound book – great for keeping notes, writing poems, or using as a small journal. A little accordion book that closes with ribbons is a perfect way to send a birthday greeting to a dear friend or family member. Slip another little book into a sleeve. And the best yet, 3 signatures bound into a soft-sided leather cover to be hung around your neck. You will not want to give any of these away.

ALTERED BOOKS
It may take some time to get over the anxiety of ‘defacing’ a book but it didn’t take me long. Why not rescue the book from the landfills and use it to create a piece of art? You can use children’s board books or almost any sewn bound book; old school text books, reference books, novels, Readers Digest . Altered books have been defined as any book, old or new, that has been recycled by creative means into a work of art." Use your book as a canvas – paint in it, stamp in it, colour, cut, punch. Add buttons, niches, brads, eyelets, ribbons, trim, or found objects. It’s endless. Create something that is meaningful, frivolous, artistic, poetic, humourous, mystical, or magical. Creating altered books is something anyone can do because there are no rules or limitations, it’s just your imagination.

BOOKBINDING 101
There is a whole new world out there and a whole new vocabulary. In this class you will learn the basics of bookbinding. Materials and the rules. We will cover what type of book board and book cloth work best, as well as glues, paper and the grain of cardboard and paper, adhesives and sewing. For those of you who have taken book classes with me, you have learned a little, but there is still more to be learned. For those of you who haven’t done Book Arts and are interested, this is the class for you. Although it is not a pre-requisite for my Book Arts classes, I recommend it.

BUTTONHOLE BOOK
The Buttonhole Book Workshop has been a popular class at the studio. Renowned Book Artist and Author, Keith Smith says “'One of the beauties of this binding, is the repetition of wrapping the spine at the head and tail, which echo vertical folds of the exposed sections. The Buttonhole Stitch forms a bead, which tightens the wrapping, as well as giving a decorative border.” A previous Book Arts class with me or equivalent would be useful but not mandatory.

COPTIC BOUND JOURNAL
THE Books Arts Workshop you have been waiting for. The Coptic Bound Book is a favorite amongst serious Book Artists. And you, too, can learn how to do it. The stitched spine technique adds dimension and interest to the book. This is a journal you will want to use, display and show off.

FLAG BOOKLET
This booklet is fun and easy to make. It can be read like a conventional book by turning the pages, but it also opens into a panoramic sculptural type of book.

IN A BOX
Let’s make and decorate a little box and fill it with something fun! A book bound with wire and beads. Oh yeah!!!

IRIS FOLD
Iris Folding originated in Holland. It is a simple paper technique that when arranging strips of paper folded in a pattern resembles an eye or a camera lens. It is combined with cards to give stunning results.

LITTLE LEATHER NECKLACE BOOK
Here is the little leather book you have all been waiting for me to teach. I ask that you have taken a Book Arts class with me before or the equivalent as the V-stitch sewing method can be a little tricky. You will go away with a beautifully crafted leather book and the skills to make semimilar books using a variety of covers.

MEMORY/JOURNAL ALBUM
This is an exciting class that is action packed and lots of fun. In this workshop you get to make choices about how you want your book to look. Each book will be unique in its appearance. You will select your decorative paper and prepare the inside pages. Choosing your twine, beads, embellishments to be attached to the “threads that bind” is a journey in itself. But that is not all. We will have time to make the book extra special by “detailing” or embellishing a few pages. We will incorporate envelopes, tags, beads, fibres or something special you have collected.

This is a perfect book to keep your travel memories in or use for a special birthday, a wedding or anniversary. My favorite book is one that was exchanged with my sister over a 3 year period in which we shared our art, creative pursuits, tender moments, and thoughts. All of the material for the Memory/Journal is supplied as well as a “goodie” bag to embellish your book with. You may wish to bring along your favorite stamps, accessories, fibres and ephemera. A previous bookbinding class is recommended but not necessary.

PERPETUAL CALENDAR
Although this accordion folded calendar welcomes any combination of colours and theme, the booklet you will be taking home is created with Asian overtones. As in all of Art Escape Studio classes you will receive a kit to complete this 4” X 8.5” project including an I Ching coin and red fibres to embellish the cover. The Calendar is a place to record birthdays or special anniversaries to be referred to year after year. It makes a lovely gift.

SET OF GREETING CARDS
Here you will be able to create 4 different hand stamped cards with matching envelopes. They will have the same theme and make a lovely bound package to give away or keep as special greeting cards.

SMALL BEADED SPINE BOOK
A snazzy little journal, simplistic in its design yet elegant. Fun and easy to make. You will get to select beads to embellish the book cloth spine. The pages are sewn in directly through the spine with waxed linen threads which adds another colourful accent.

STAMPING 101
You will learn the basics of stamping in this class and go home with a handful of masterpieces. Find out about the proper use and care of stamps, the different types of ink pads, how to emboss, the use of markers and much more.

STAR ALBUM
By far the Studio’s most popular class. You will go home with a multi-folded book that can be used as a mini scrapbook, a journal or book decorated with your favorite sayings and stickers. It could even become Grandma’s brag book. Anything is possible with this booklet. A gift that lasts and lasts. If you haven’t made a book before, this is a good place to begin.

STAR BOOK
This class is sure to fill up quickly. The stunning Star Book is held shut with ribbons and opens to reveal pages of pockets and cubby holes that charms its audience. When fully opened 360° - it gives the appearance of a star. A treat to make and decorate.

All of the material for the Star Book is supplied as well as a “goodie” bag to decorate with. You may wish to bring along your favorite stamps, embellishments, accessories, fibres and ephemera.

STATIONARY GIFT SET
Imagine receiving a hand decorated case filled with stationary you have designed. We will be using a fall theme with autumn colours. This will make a special gift for any family member or friend.
